Martin Jönsson

Director and camera operator in Mari Carmen España - The end of silence. Debutant filmmaker.

Got into television in 1994;  as a news reporter and editor at TV4. 

From 2003 working exclusively with investigative journalism for three years: 

-reporter at TV4 programme Kalla fakta 2003

-2004-2006 editor at the award-winning TV programme for investigative journalism in Sweden: Uppdrag granskning on SVT1. 

-Freelance producer/director/reporter and project manager since february 2006.

Degree in journalism at the university of Gothenburg in 1990. News paper reporter for two years. Radio reporter for two years. Founder and editor of philosophical magazine Äcklet (The Nausea) 1992-98

Pontus Hjorthén

Director and camera operator in Mari Carmen España - The end of silence. Debutant filmmaker.

Translator, writer, journalist and bricklayer living in Granada since 1997.

Degree in Spanish language and Culture and society of ancient Rome and Greece at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden.

Translation for BCT translations, Babel lingua, Bonniers, Palacio de Congresos, Granada etc.

Septiembre 1975. Franco acababa de firmar sus últimas sentencias de muerte. En Suecia un niño de 8 años participa en la primera manifestación de su vida. Por televisión ha escuchado al primer ministo sueco Olof Palme llamar "Asesinos del Diablo" al régimen de Franco, y predecir que el "veredicto histórico" iba a ser "terriblemente duro".

En MARI CARMEN - FINAL DEL SILENCIO aquel niño y su amigo viajan por España 30 años más tarde, intentando comprender el trauma de un país que aman. Hacen preguntas sobre un pasado que se escondió bajo un pacto de silencio.

En el sur se encuentran con Mari Carmen España. Ella ha tomado el veredicto histórico en sus propias manos, negándose a aceptar que su abuelo asesinado yace en una fosa común, junto a la tapia del cementerio de un pueblo vecino, cubierta de un montón de escombro. Quedan conmovidos por su incansable lucha con las autoridades por darle justicia y reconocimiento a su abuelo asesinado. Incluso llegan a intentar ayudarla. 

En el mismo viaje encuentran al instigador de los asesinatos, entrerrado bajo la Cruz más grande del mundo, en el corazón de España. Un símbolo monumental del cristianismo, pero también el monumento fascista más grande que ha visto el mundo.

MARI CARMEN - FINAL DEL SILENCIO es un roadmovie documental en coches alquilados. Entra por las puertas de monjes, alcaldes y gente común, todos ellos inmersos en el proceso de reescribir la historia de su país. 

Ésta búsqueda de un veredicto histórico literalmente cruza toda España.

MARI CARMEN - FINAL DEL SILENCIO es la historia sobre lo que pasa cuando un país intenta amputar su pasado. Durante sus confrontaciones con políticos, tanto de derecha como de izquierda, y con la iglesia católica, finalmente también llegan a ser cuestionados los suecos mismos.

September 1975. Franco has signed his last death sentences. In Sweden an 8 year old boy took part in his first ever demonstration. On TV he had heard prime minister Olof Palme calling the Franco regime "Satan`s murderes" and predicting that " the historical veredict will be terribly harsh".
In MARI CARMEN- THE END OF SILENCE that boy and his friend travel around Spain 30 years later, trying to understand the trauma of a country they love. The ask questions about a past was swept under the carpet by a pact of silence.
In the south  the meet Mari Carmen España. She has taken the historical verdict into her own hands, refusing to accept that that her murdered grandfather lies in an unmarked mass grave under a pile of garbage. They find the instigator of the mass murder buried beneath the world's biggest Cross in the heart of Spain. A monumental symbol of christianity, but also the largest fascist monument the world has ever seen.
MARI CARMEN- THE END OF SILENCE is a documentary roadmovie in rental cars.
Knocking  on doors of monks, mayors anda common people, this quest for the harsh historical cerdict, that Palme predicted, crosses the entire country.
MARI CARMEN- THE END OF SILENCE is the story of what happens when a country trises to amputate its past. Confronting politicians from both left and right, as well as the Catholic church, the travelling Swedes finally get questioned themselves.
